Medicaid Planning Group was established in 2003 to help fulfill a need in the community. Our knowledge level and expertise is unique and the best available in the Commonwealth.
We are here to inform you of your options so you can make the best decisions for your family. We know the MassHealth rules and regulations. We will work efficiently to be sure everything is completed with the MassHealth time frames.
What does Medicaid Planning Group, Inc. do?
Families come to us at various stages of needing MassHealth. They could be preparing for down the road or already have a loved one in a nursing home needing a way to pay for the care. We advise families how to become asset eligible for MassHealth while following the rules and regulations. Once the family is asset eligible we assist with the application process. We can NOT assist getting the documentation, but we do tell you what documents we need, we go through the paperwork putting it together to submit to MassHealth on your behalf. Our many years of MassHealth experience will guide you through the system. We know what MassHealth requires and will facilitate the process through to completion. Our services are personal and confidential. We will be with you to help guide you through MassHealth until a final determination is made.

Before entering a nursing home:
If you are future enough to have the time to plan ahead for MassHealth, we can tell you the things you can be spending your money on now to avoid MassHealth penalties. Many people are under the assumption they are not allowed to spend their own money because the state will penalize them. That is not true. You can spend your own money or YOU, you cannot give it away, but you can spend it. We also instruct you on what paperwork to be keeping. MassHealth has a 5 year look back period, the more documents you have the less stress it will be on you at the time.
After entering a nursing home:
We help you spend your assets down on the appropriate items, before starting to pay down to the facility in private days. There are "quality of life preservation" options that are still available to people after entering a nursing home. You do owe privately to a facility for every day you are not asset eligible. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT YOU CONTACT US IMMEDIATELY FOR ASSISTANCE TO AVOID ANY LAPSE IN COVERAGE.
You started the application on your own:
We can assist with finalizing the application. Most often this happens when a family continues to get denied and needs assistance with an appeal for one reason or another. We handle appeals as long as they are NOT regarding a legal matter. WE ARE NOT ATTORNEYS.
Eligibility
A single individual is eligible when all their assets are below $2,000.00. A married couple is eligible when all their combined assets are below $128,640.00. When you leave our consult you will have a step-by-step guide to reduce your assets without jeopardizing MassHealth benefits along with a detailed list of documents needed to process the application. Failure to provide the correct documentation to the state will result in a denial.
Yearly Reviews
After an individual has received MassHealth the family will have to complete a yearly review. This is an easier process, but one that is still very important. Medicaid Planning Group can either show you how to complete the application for a onetime fee or you can hire us to complete the application every year for a higher fee.
